How do the Air Source Heat Pumps work?

The refrigeration system of a heat pump is made up of a compressor and two copper or aluminum coils (one inside and one outside) with aluminum fins to enhance heat transmission. In heating mode, the outer coil's liquid refrigerant absorbs heat from the air and evaporates into a gas. As the refrigerant condenses back into a liquid, the heat is released from the indoor coil. A reversing valve near the compressor may shift the refrigerant flow's direction for cooling and defrosting the outside coil in the winter.
